Abstract
281,448. Adsero, J. Oct. 26, 1926. Catch gear of mine-cage type. - Safety catch gear for mine-cages &c., of the kind in which guide grips are mounted on a carrier which is separable from the cage, has the grips connected to the cage by tapered ropes which by reason of the taper become gradually wedged between the guides and rollers or other abutments and so support the cage when the hoisting rope &c. breaks. The hoisting rope bolt 12 passes through the top of the cage 1, a spring 13 being fitted to the lower end of the bolt between a bearer plate 14 on the cage and a cross-plate, 15 on the bolt. Levers 16 pivoted to the cross-plate pass through eyeletted rods 17 depending from cross shafts 5 mounted in a carrier frame 4 separably mounted on the top of the cage by means of dowel pins 6. When the hoisting rope comes into action, the spring 13 is compressed, the levers 16 contact with fulcrum ribs 24 on the roof of the cage and by means of the eyelet rods 17 hold the carrier frame against the cage. When the hoisting rope breaks, guide gripping arms 8 mounted on shafts 7 are pressed against the guides 2 by springs, so detaching the carrier frame! from the cage and as the cage moves downwards it is gradually brought to rest by the increasing force exerted on tapered ropes 20 connected at their thin ends to the shafts 7 and passing between the guides 2 and rollers 21 or other abutments on the cage.
