Abstract

25,529. Busch, H. H. Nov. 12. Safety suspending-apparatus fcr lift cages comprise a pair of wedge-shaped brake blocks connected by pivoted levers to a transverse rod, from which a rope passes upwards and over guidepulleys at the top and bottom of the cage. Figs. 1 and 2 show the lift cage in front and side elevation. The cage b is suspended from the hoisting-ropes d<3> by yokes d<2> attached to the cross-bar d, which is provided at its ends with laterally adjustable inclined guides to receive the wedge-shaped brake blocks f. The blocks f are pivoted to levers g<2>, which have a hinged connexion at one end with brackets g on the car, and at the other end are connected to a transverse rod h. A rope h<2> passes from the rod h round pulleys h<3> at the top of the well, down the side of the well to a pulley at the bottom, and is fixed to the underside of the cage. The rod h is also connected by a link i to a hand-lever j<2> pivoted on a bracket in the roof of the cage. If the hoisting - rope breaks, the sudden downward movement of the cage causes the rope h<2> to pull up the rod h against the action of the spring j<3>, and causes the wedges f to grip the guides. The apparatus may be brought into action at any time by the hand-lever.
