Abstract

281,253. Aktiebolaget Vaporackumulator. Nov. 29, 1926, [Convention date]. Automatic gear.-In a steam-supply installation having high and low-pressure steam mains F, N, and a motor with high and low pressure sections H, C, the former of which exhausts to the low-pressure main N and to the low-pressure section C through a valve U, V controlled by the pressure in the tapping-pipe T to keep that pressure constant, a valve X is arranged in the pipe T which begins to close as the speed' of the motor decreases after the live steam regulator Z has fully opened owing to the power demand of the motor and the demand of the low-pressure consumers becoming excessive. The power of the motor is thereby maintained, additional steam passing to the main N through the branch L. In the turbine plant shown, the valve X may be controlled by a centrifugal governor mechanically rotated by the engine shaft, or by an electric motor whose speed changes with the speed of the generator G, or a pump may be driven by the electric motor which may be in series with the generator, the delivery head of which pump varies with the speed and the pressure thereof affects the valve X. The pump delivery may pass through an adjustable throttling-device, the pressure affecting a diaphragm regulating the valve. If the tapped steam supplies several consumers, the valve X may be mounted upon the supply pipe of only one, the other consumers thereby getting unthrottled tapped steam. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, a third main E is provided the consumers attached to which obtain steam from an accumulator S. The motor condensate is supplied to the accumulator S from which it is pumped to the generator. In addition to the valve X the accumulator may have a valve U, V, controlled by the pressure in the main F. The invention may be applied to a multi-stage motor. If there are several valves X, the valve in the accumulator discharge main will first close, so that the reduced quantity tapped by the other valves may be supplemented by steam from the accumulator.
