Abstract

280,849. Nagler, B. Nov. 22, 1926, [Convention date]. Helicopters; aircraft coupled in trains; stopping way; propelling; steering, balancing, and regulating altitude. - A rotary propeller comprises planes 5 mounted on axles 4 journaled in a diso 3 driven from a shaft 2, levers 7 fixed to the axles 4 being pivoted to the arms 12 of a member rotatable round a disc 11 eccentrically displaced the length of a lever 7 with respect to the shaft 2 so that the levers 7 are maintained parallel with respect to one another during rotation, but the planes 5 being yieldably mounted upon the axles 4 through the medium of springs 6 assume such positions due to the resistance of the air that a lifting or driving force is obtained. The free ends of the planes 5 are braced against stresses due to centrifugal action by means of stay wires 17. The tension of the springs 6 is adjustable. The position of the centre 10 of the disc 11 is adjustable through a lever 13 for varying the line of action of the propeller and thereby obtaining a lifting, propelling, or braking force. Where propellers are provided on each side of the machine lateral control may be obtained by simultaneous differential adjustment of them. Machines may be provided with several pairs of propellers. A number of separate complete machines may be elastically coupled together to form a train.
