Abstract

280,734. Internationale Bergin-Cie voor Olie-en Kolenchemie, and Debo, A. Jan. 10, 1927. Hydrogenation, destructive. - In the destructive hydrogenation of coal, oil, or other carbonaceous substances, the high - pressure reaction vessel is connected through a multiple condensing system to an engine which utilizes the pressure of the uncondensed gases. In the apparatus shown, coal made into a paste is forced through a pipe b into a reaction vessel a to which hydrogen is delivered through a pipe c, a pressure of 150 atmospheres being maintained. The products pass by a pipe d to a cooler c maintained at about 300‹ C. to trap heavy oils and entrained solids which are collected in a vessel h and run to a still. The uncondensed products pass through a pipe g to a condenser h for be middle oils which collect in a vessel l. The vapours pass to a third cooler n and with the condensed water, and light benzenes are passed through a pipe r to the lower end of a washing tower q from which liquids are discharged from a valve s. The gases pass through the rings or other filling in the tower q against a stream of oil from the tank l, a pipe o, and a cooler p, and thus freed from benzene and moisture are passed through a pipe t to an expansion engine v, preferably through a heater u, and at an atmospheric pressure are supplied to a methane cracking device.
