Separating gases by liquefaction. - In the double-column or like separation process for obtaining oxygen and nitrogen from air, the gaseous s nitrogen issuing at the top of the apparatus is conducted, before being used to cool the compressed air supply, through a pipe C wherein its temperature is raised by the effect of crude liquid oxygen from the first stage, which is led through a coil 1. The liquid nitrogen from the first stage is led through a coil 2 also situated in the pipe C to assist this warming process. Pure oxygen is conducted from the condenser K by a pipe 3.
