411,248. Separating gases by liquefaction. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO., 30, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Bowditch, L. J. ; 70, North 155th Street, Flushing, Long Island, New York.) March 3, 1933, No. 6508. Convention date, April 23, 1932. [Class 8 (ii).] A liquefied gas containing impurities having a melting point higher than the boiling point of the gas, in so small concentration as not to affect the boiling point, is brought into a heat exchanger 10 where it is partly vaporized, the gas and liquid being separated in a vessel 17, the impurities remaining and being drawn off with the liquid. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which impurities both more and less volatile than the gas are removed, the liquefied gas entering by the conduit 25 is partly vaporized, the more volatile impurity passing off through a coil 29 while the liquid is delivered through a pipe 33 to the upper part of the column where it is partly vaporized by this coil, the residual less volatile impurities being drawn off with the liquid through a pipe 37 while the purified gas flows off through pipe 36.
