Abstract
280,110. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. May 31, 1926. Addition to 253,105. Cleansing-compositions.-Saponaceous compositions for use with sea-water or in dyeing, fulling, or other baths which are acid or contain salts of calcium or magnesium consist of mixtures of soaps or turkey-red oils with an aromatic or hydro-aromatic sulphonic acid or salts thereof of high wetting power. There may also be added sulphite cellulose liquor, a purifying agent e.g. borax, or solvents such as benzine, glycerol, cyclohexanol, alcohols, or ethylene glycol monoethyl ether. The compositions may be prepared by mixing the acid or its salt or a concentrated solution thereof with fused soap, or kneading or mixing the soap and dry salt together, or by adding the acid during the saponification. 80 lb. of soap to 20 lb. of acid or salt is suitable. Sulphonic acids specified are those obtained by condensing aromatic or hydro-aromatic sulphonic acids with aliphatic, hydro-aromatic, or aromaticaliphatic alcohols such as isopropyl or butyl alcohols, cyclohexanol, or benzyl alcohol; condensation products of formaldehyde with naphthalene sulphonic acids; sulphonic acids containing halogen, nitro-, amino-, or hydroxyl groups e.g. amyl naphthylamine sulphonic acids. In examples (1) a product for fulling or washing goods is obtained by kneading or boiling together 50 kilograms of soap, 50 kilograms of butyl naphthalene sulphonic acid, and 20 kilograms of concentrated sulphite cellulose lye. (2) 10 kilograms of soap are mixed with 25 kilograms of isopropyl or butyl naphthalene sulphuric acid sodium salt. A solution of 1-2 grams is added to each litre of a carbonizing bath. (3) A composition for washing, degreasing, and bleaching wool consists of 6 lb. of grain or resin soap, 10 lb. of butyl naphthalene sulphonic acid, and 4 lb. of sodium bisulphite. 16 grams is added to each litre of an acid bath. Dibutylaniline sulphonic acids, condensation products of cresol-sulphonic acid with formaldehyde, and sulphonated anthracene residues and the like may replace the above sulphonic acid. Sulphonic acids of "high wetting power " are defined as those of which 0.5 per cent aqueous solutions of their sodium salts wet a felt-like textile fabric, e.g. of wool or cotton, within an hour. The sulphonic acids referred to may also be used in baths in the manner described in the parent Specification. Specification 19759/12 also is referred to.
