Cooling-towers are provided externally for practically the whole length with longitudinal ribs 10 for conducting air towards ducts 5, which are provided in a top member and open at their upper ends into the interior of the tower and have their lower openings disposed either wholly or in part outside the part of the tower on which the top member is mounted. A spreading-cone 9 may be mounted on the top member. A wooden tower is illustrated in Fig. 2, and a concrete tower in Fig. 3.
