Segmental and block paving; manhole frames and covers.- Expansion joints in paving elements a are provided with embedded border strips c, preferably of metal, which engage one another by means of teeth d, d<1> to prevent injury to the edges of the joint by the wheels of vehicles. The space b between the. strips is filled with bitumen in the ordinary way. Similar toothed border strips may be provided on the engaging parts of manhole covers and frames.
