278,473. International Shoe Findings, Ltd., and Brown, E. T. July 28, 1926. Soldering-irons.-A soldering- iron is provided with a shank consisting of two or more bars separated by air spaces and extending into or through the hollow part of a substantially hollow handle without contact therewith, so as to keep the handle cool. As shown applied to a top iron the bars 1, which are driven or screwed into the iron 6 are secured by pins or screws in holes in the forward end of a wooden or other non- metallic handle 2. The other end of the handle is hollow and receives the rear ends of the bars, which may be tapered. Further holes 5 are made in the handle for the passage of air. The handle may be reticulated. In a modification the solid part of the handle to which the multi-part shank is secured may be at the rear end of the handle.
