Abstract

278,253. Tawara, H. March 18, 1927. Propelling and steering by water jets.-Water jet propelling apparatus is provided with a defiecting board for reversing which is operated by a lever in common with a subsidiary guide plate adjacent the outlet from the casing of the paddle wheel or screw propeller. A grating on the suction side may be moved relative to a fixed grating for clearing weeds. A reversing plate 9 is hinged on a pivot 12 and normally housed in a casing 11. The operating lever 13 is extended and connected to a guide plate 16. The bars 17 of a grating on the suction side are pivoted and can be reciprocated between fixed bars 19 by a rod 23. The plate 9 may be a single one, and when double can be formed with openings communicating with the delivery stream.
