278,071. Young, W. B. June 29, 1926. Pedestal stands. - A telescopic pedestal for a display tray 4 comprises inner and outer tubular members 3, 1. The tray may be mounted on the inner member 3 by means of the hinge 5 described in Specification 270,100, [Class 65 (ii), Hinges &c.]. The lower end of the member 3 is split to form spring arms 11 which are normally spread into locking engagement with the outer member 1 by a conical plug 7 on a rod 6 normally raised by a spring 10. The locking engagement may be frictional, or by interengaging grooves or threads 12 on the arms and outer member. The rod 6 is depressed, to unlock the inner and outer member, by the short arms 20 of T-shaped levers 18 the long arms 19 of which are of disc form for actuation by the thumb and fingers. In a modification, the two levers 18 are replaced by a single lever the short arm of which is pivoted at a point beyond the end of the rod 6. As an alternative, locking means, toothed levers or toggle levers may be forced into engagement with the outer member 1 by the rod 6, and laterally moving press buttons with wedge or cam faces may replace the levers 18 for actuating the rod 6. According to the Provisional Specification, the invention is applicable generally to the locking of two telescoping members.
