Controlling-apparatus, arrangements of hand gear in conjunction with.-Whenthe tractor is backed to the trailer a cup 5 engages a ring 8 on the trailer. The cup is mounted on swinging links 1 which gradually take the weight of the trailer as they approach the vertical. During this movement a roller 16 contacts with a ring 17 on the tractor and by means of a series of links causes the front wheels 27 of the trailer to move inwards about axles 24. In view of the circular shape of the member 17 these movements are independent of the angle between the vehicles. The ring is finally engaged by a hook 13 under the control of a lever 29. The brakes of the trailer are connected to a fork 33 screwed to a rod 34, which, in the coupled position, may be operated by a push-piece 35 and lever 36. In the uncoupled state the brakes of the trailer are put on by springs.
