Impact pulverizers; conical mills.-A pulverizer in which the material under treatment is subjected to suction, gravity, and centrifugal force is provided with a crusher for granulating the material prior to pulverizing, the crusher having a part which yields when uncrushable material enters therein. The yielding part may consist of a bowl body or head composed of a number of spring-pressed units. As shown, the pulverizing chamber a is in the form of a vertical open-ended. shell b, the upper portion c of which is cylindrical and the lower portion d conical. A fan f and casing g are mounted above the upper end of the shell b, and a secondary fan and casing may be arranged above the fan f. The bottom of the shell b interconnects with two conduits h, i, the conduit h communicating with the atmosphere and the conduit i with a crusher j in the feedhopper k. The beaters mare carried by a vertical shaft l, with the lowest beater m<1> in close proximity to the opening n at the bottom of the part d of the shell. The crusher-head r of the crusher j is mounted on a shaft s driven through gearing t, u from the shaft l, and co-operates with a yieldable bowl q which may comprise a series of arcuate sections each pivoted at one end and spring-pressed at the other end. An ejector v consisting of a pusher w reciprocated by an eccentric y on the shaft s may be provided to direct the granulated coal &c. to the chamber a.
