Abstract
277,071. Cozens, F. G., and Metallisation, Ltd. June 4, 1926. Coatin,g; coating non- metallic surfaces with metal.-The interior of elongated articles of considerable length such as pipes and tubes is coated with metal by the metal spraying process, the coating material in a pulverized or liquid condition together with a combustible gas being fed to a melting and/or spraying appliance through a rigid or flexible extension pipe connected thereto and the disintegrated material issuing from the melting, &c., appliance being deflected in any desired direction by means of jets supplied by an independent source of gaseous medium. The spraying appliance is fixed and the article is given a longitudinal and rotary movement relatively to the jet of coating material. The coating material from a container 1 is fed into a pipe 8, as described in Speeification 21066/11, and is there propelled forward, by a spraying medium entering at 4 through an extension 8<1>, which may be adjustably attached to the pipe 8, into a spraying nozzle 9. Pivotally mounted at 15 on the nozzle 9 is a deflecting nozzle 10 which is supplied with a gaseous medium from a container 12 by a pipe 11 and which can be adjusted mechanically by a wire 16 passing through a loop 17 and connected to the nozzle 10. The angle of the defected spray may also be adjusted by varying the pressure of the pressure medium or the supply of gas to the nozzle 10 in a manner similar to that described in Specification 18841/13. The spraying appliance may comprise a central pipe for the coating material surrounded by a gas conduit itself surrounded by the air supply outside which is located a conduit for the supply of the medium to the nozzle 10, the four conduits being encased in a single outer tube. Specifications 28001/12 and 25132/13 also are referred to. Before the article is coated with metal, the surface to ha coated may be treated with a sand :blast, sand being used instead of the coating material.
