Abstract

1,249,157. Ornamenting. W. A. SMITH. 25 July, 1969 [2 May, 1968], No. 20749/68. Heading B6G. Aggregate is applied to a surface, e.g. of walls, ceilings, pillars, by (1) delivering fluid adhesive along a pipe from a container to a spraying tool and discharging a stream of the adhesive towards the surface, (2) delivering aggregate from another container into a passage connected to the tool, driving the aggregate along the passage by gas pressure, reducing the initial velocity of the aggregate prior to discharge from the tool, and discharging the aggregate and the gas from the tool in separate streams, and (3) directing the stream of aggregate towards the surface so as to meet the stream of fluid adhesive material so that the aggregate is coated with adhesive before reaching the surface. As shown in Fig. 1, a stream 156 of atomized liquid adhesive is discharged from spray gun 18 of tool 12 by manually drawing trigger 88 rearwardly so that adhesive 27 is forced under the pressure in container 22 through pipe 28 to the nozzle of spray gun 18 where the liquid is entrained in a stream of air from pipe 38 and discharged through the nozzle. Trigger 88 is then moved rearwardly through a second stage to allow air under pressure to pass through outlet 68 of pipe 70 whereby granular aggregate 50 is entrained in the stream of air passing through pipe 64 and fed into aggregate discharging part 16 of the tool. The velocity of the stream of aggregate is decreased as a result of expansion in part 16 and obstruction by the elbow formation of part 16. A lip deflector 152 deflects the air stream upwardly but has no substantial effect on the stream 158 of aggregate which issues in alignment with the forward part 136 of the elbow.
