Abstract

276,056. Lloyd, M. B. May 17, 1926. Shedding - motions; heads. - In a reed weaving machine, warp strands pass through openings 10, Fig. 5 in a vertical plate 9, then between the plate-like parts 32, Fig. 4 of strand-manipulating members 27, 27, Figs. 10, 12 and 13, whereby sheds are successively formed into which stakes are inserted singly from a magazine at the side of the loom. The members 27 are secured by screws 30 to upper and lower bars 20, 21. The members 27 have flattened parts 29 engaging the overhanging parts of shoulder bars &c. 19 fixed to bars 16, 17. The plate-like parts 32 of the members 27 associated with the bar 20 are in the same planes as the plate-like parts 32 of the members 27 associated with the bar 17, which planes are the planes of the recesses between the plate-like parts of the members 27, 27 associated with the bars 21 and 16 respectively, the first mentioned plate-like parts fitting in the last mentioned recesses. The ends 33 of the members are arranged at an angle less than a right angle so that at no time will all the warp strands be in one common plane. The bars 20, 17 are cross connected so as to move together, and the bars 16, 21 are similarly connected, whilst the bars 20, 21 are vertically reciprocated towards and from each other to shed the warp strands. At each end, a vertical rack bar 24 secured to the bar 17 faces a, corresponding rack bar 25 secured to the bar 16, both gearing with a gear 23 mounted on the loom frame so that the bars 16, 17 move in opposite directions, the rack bar 25 being vertically reciprocated by means of eccentric straps 61 and eccentrics 60 on a shaft driven by mutilated gears and chain gearing from a shaft 43. The members 27 have tongues &c. 34 guided in grooves in the fixed cross bars 14.
