Abstract
275,582. Electrical Research Products, Inc., (Assignees of Stoller, H. M., and Morton, E. R.). Aug. 4, 1926, [Convention date]. Regulation, automatic. - For automatically regulating speed or frequency of a dynamoelectric machine, a thermionic valve is arranged so that the grid potential changes responsively to changes of speed, the anode current being amplified and used electromagnetically to change the voltage of supply in a compensatory sense. The Figure shows an arrangement for maintaining constant speed of an alternating current repulsion motor 5 supplied from mains 6 through a transformer 9. A high frequency induction type generator 11 driven by the motor feeds a tuned circuit containing an inductance coil 19 the ends of which are connected to the grid and filament of a thermionic valve 15. Change of the grid potential due to change of speed of the motor varies the anode current of the valve, which, after being amplified and rectified by two valves 16, 17, excites a direct current winding 10 of a variable inductance device 7 connected in the feeding line of the motor 5. The arrangement is such that increase of speed brings about increase of inductance and consequently decreased effective feed voltage. To obviate hunting action the anode circuit and the grid circuit of the responsive valve 15 are interlinked through a transformer 28. Specifications 275,784 and 297,153 are referred to.
