Abstract
274,581. Drummond, A. A. April 26, 1926. Phenol-aldehyde condensation products.-Synthetic resins of the phenol-aldehyde type are purified by treatment with the vapour of an organic solvent of lower boiling-point than water, preferably one with which the resin is miscible. The solution generally remaining after the treatment may be used directly for impregnating fillers, or the resin may be isolated by removing the solvent, for example by vacuum distillation. In an example, an alcoholic solution of a phenolformaldehyde resin made by a known method with acid or basic catalyst is treated with the vapour of ethyl alcohol until the issuing vapours are free from phenol.
