Abstract
274,352. Grossweischede, J., and Reichenbecher, G. Dec. 31, 1926. Pipes. - High-pressure pipes for turbines &c. are made by cupping a blank a which has been rolled or forged to give it a dense structure, between pairs of dies b, c of successively decreasing .diameter, the cupping being effected while the work is hot. A part of the integral end of the pipe is then removed leaving an inwardlyprojecting flange which is subsequently worked so that the flange projects outwards. A flange is formed at the open end by arresting the work before its end passes through the die in the later stages. The final male die or mandrel may be collapsible, comprising segments e movable longitudinally on a tapered core d, slots f and projections g being provided to limit the relative movement of the core and segments. Successive lengths may be coupled by screw collars, welding &c., and loose flanges may be assembled on the pipes prior to such coupling.
