Abstract

273,919. Baker, A. A. F. Aug. 19, 1926. Capping. - A capping device for the end of a rope comprises a split tapered wedge 3, 4, a block 9 disposed on the rope core 8 and having the strands arranged and secured thereon to form an enlargement, a recess 13 formed in the wedge to accommodate the enlargement, a plate 14 disposed adjacent the end of the wedge, and a clamp 15 secured to the end of the rope. The block 9 may be formed of a series of segmental elements disposed around the core and wedge-shaped elements may be arranged between the opened-out strands to position them upon the block 9. The usual casing 16 is secured in position over the tapered wedge 3, 4 by means of tapered rings.
