Abstract

Vacuum tubes. - A frame for carrying the electrodes has two members, one of which supports and spaces the upper ends of the grid and cathode so as to permit of the assembly of those electrodes and the subsequent mounting of a tubular anode around them, the other member being placed subsequently in position and connected to the first member. As shown in Fig. 1, the lower part of the frame consists of a cross-shaped insulator 6 which is mounted on rods 4 secured to a band 2 encircling a re-entrant tube. The filament 16 is looped around supports 15 on the insulator 6 and resilient hooks 23 on an upper insulating bar 21 mounted on two rods 12, which are secured to the insulator 6 and carry a helical grid 12. An anode, consisting of two U-shaped members 32, Fig. 6, with lateral extensions 33, and end frames 35, is slipped over the cathode-grid structure with the grooved ends 34 of the extensions fitting around the rods 4. A bar 41 is subsequently fitted on the rods and riveted or bolted to the bar 21. In a modification the insulator 6 consists of two parts secured together. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7. the lower support consists of a straight bar 51 carrying two rods 61 for the grid and two rods 66 for the anode. The rods 61 are connected at the top by a bar 62, and after the anode has been placed in position, a bracing member 68 is mounted on the rods 66.
