Abstract

273,307. Wacker Ges. f³r Elektrochemische Industrie Ges., Dr. A. June 25, 1926, [Convention date]. Fats and fatty oils, extracting by solvents.-In an apparatus for cleaning metal articles by means of a solvent liquid such as trichlorethylene, benzine. benzol, and carbon tetrachloride, the articles are contained in a perforated basket h pivotally mounted in the upper part e of a closed container a, the part e being separated from the lower part f by a partition d having a tube g secured to an aperture therein. The cleansing liquid is contained in the lower part f, which may be heated, and is forced through the tube g into the part e and round the articles in the basket h by causing a difference in pressure in the parts e and f by air forced by a pump l through pipes r<1>, r<2> into the part f. When the level of the liquid in the part f reaches the bottom of the tube g, air passes through the latter tube and agitates the liquid in the part e, thus increasing the cleansing action. To assist in this operation, the basket h may be rocked by a handle m. When the cleansing action has been completed, the cock i is opened, the pipes r<2>, r' connected, and liquid flows back again into the container f. To dry the articles in the basket, the pump l is connected by the valve i with the pipe r<3> and the part e, and a current of air forced in. This current of air may be heated by a gas heated worm enveloping the pipe r<3>, or by an electric heater inserted in the said pipe. The air passes from the part e by a pipe r' to a cooling vessel k, in which also any solvent entering in the vapour is condensed and flows back into the container a. To purify the'solvent after use, the solvent in the part f is distilled, and the vapour passes by a pipe r<5> into a cooling worm in the vessel k, the liquid condensed passing by a pipe r<6> to a container o. The difference in pressure in the parts e, f may be produced by means of a. motor-driven pump or an air blast, or compressed gas from containers under pressure may be employed.
