Abstract

273,200. Newton, G. F. Feb. 7, 1927. Sprinklers, automatic.- A fusible link for a lever-type sprinkler head comprises inner and outer discs 25, 37 each having a central hole 29, holes and slots 27, 28 for the levers 21, 22, and inclined peripheries 26. The disc 25 has an annular rib 35 fitting into an annular groove 38 on the disc 37. Soldered in the holes 29 is a tube 30, and soldered to the discs over the tube 30 are sunken washers 36. Also in the discs are depressions 31. 32 defining cavities, in the upper of which are arranged two rolls 33 and in the lower two toggle-joint members 34. The entire inner surfaces of the discs are secured together by solder 39. By this construction, the parts of the link are strongly held together, but under fire conditions the edges 26, rib 35, tube 30, and bodies 33. 34 quickly force the discs apart. In a modified form of link, the cavities 31, 32 are replaced by an annular groove housing two semi-circular wire retaining members. The outlet 1 of the sprinkler is closed by a shallow box 9 closed by a cover 11 and housing a spiral spring and spring washer which compensate for variations in the shape of the sprinkler frame due to expansion &c. The spreader comprises a disc 16 having a screw-threaded periphery on which is adjustably screwed a deflectorrim 19 having bent fingers 20.
