Abstract

251,119. Mather & Platt, Ltd., and Taylor, J. May 27, 1925. Sprinklers, automatic. - A frangible strut for a sprinkler valve a, of the kind comprising a glass bulb c adapted to be burst by the expansion of the liquid it contains, is produced from a tube which is blown in a suitable mould so that its walls are thinned and bellied out to form a bulb of barrel shape. The bulb is formed during moulding with a flat seat at one or both ends, and with or without a projecting rib or band f. In a modification, the bulb is formed with helical ribs. In another modification, a rib may be formed across each flat end of the bulb, at the position of the joint in the split mould, and the bearing parts b, d of the valve may be formed with grooves to accommodate these ribs.
