Couplings, automatic. - A car-coupler comprises a head 15 pivotally secured by a pin 24 to a draw-bar 19 for swinging movement in the horizontal direction within coupling limits, the outer end of the coupler head being provided with a flange 16 to contact with a similar flange on a companion coupler, for automatic adjustment and coupling and a knuckle 30 being secured to the coupler head for engagement with a gravityactuated pin 36 on the companion coupler. The pin 24 passes through an elongated slot in the draw-bar, the end of the draw-bar being curved in the horizontal and vertical planes to present convex surfaces to a horizontal concave and vertical convex surface on the coupler head. The pin 36 is provided with a pin 43 adapted to slide in a slot 41 in a front web 28 of the coupler and is provided with a lateral bulbous extension 38 for engagement with the knuckle, the bottom edge of the extension being curved at 40 for automatic lifting of the pin by the knuckle during coupling. The heads of the pins are each provided with a projection 50 and a recess 53 which interangage during the coupling operation and which enable both pins to be raised simultaneously by an uncoupling lever, the end of the lever working in an elongated hole in the head of the pin Fig. 4 (not shown), so that in the event of the draw-bar breaking, the uncoupling rod is automatically disconnected. The end of the knuckle is bevelled for centralizing the heads during coupling and the shape of the knuckle is such that the head may be coupled to a pivotedknuckle type of coupling.
