Packing, non-metallic; cupleather packing. - Packing for plungers &c. comprises discs 8 of a non-metallic material of a flexible but stiff nature, such as untanned calf or other skin, vellum, vegetable parchment, or photographic, or cinematograph film. The discs have central offset portions 15, extending in the direction of the high pressure at an angle of between 30‹ and 60‹, and are clamped between correspondingly - shaped members 3 - - 7. More than one disc may be arranged between each pair of clamping members. Discs 17, 18, with their flanges extending in the opposite direction, may be arranged at the outer end of the stuffing-box.
