Vapour apparatus, arrangement of. - In systems in which power is interchanged between alternating and direct current systems by means of electron discharge devices, the relative characteristics of The two systems are varied by controlling the phase of an alternating potential applied to the grids of the devices. The systems described are similar to those described in Specification 251,301, with the exception that in the system shown in Fig. 6 of the present applioation, an adjustable bias potential can be applied to the grids 30, 31 by a source 24<1> connected between the cathode 24 and the secondary of the transformer 36, the primary of which is supplied by the phase shifting device 38.
