Abstract
370,549. Supply system for consuming devices. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. -(Assignees of Kearsley, W. K. ; 1606, Randolph Road, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 6, 1931, No. 3832. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1930. [Class 38 (iv).] Systems depending on static transformers.-In an A.C. system in which a unilaterally conducting load such as an X-ray device is supplied from a transformer, the high open-circuit voltage which tends to occur during the half-wave intervals when the load is nonconductive is reduced by putting a rectifier in the primary circuit of the transformer. An X-ray tube 6, Fig. 1, is supplied from A.C. mains 24, 241, through a step-up transformer 1 which has a rectifier valve 18 in series with the primary. In a modification shown in Fig. 2 the rectifier is of a Thyratron valve 35 the grid potential of which is determined by the voltage of the battery 37 and the alternating voltage across the resistance 38 when switches 41, 26 are closed. Switch 41 is of press-button type. The circuit is operative only when this switch is closed. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 9089/06, [Class 38, Electricity, Regulating &c.].
