Abstract

June 16, 1926. wireless tuning- apparatus, adjustment devices for.- In variable condensers &c. provided with a gear train for giving a fine adjustment to the movable parts, an intermediate gear spindle is carried by a spring or springs anchored at two points to the instrument frame and at a third point to the intermediate spindle, the arrangement preventing backlash or lateral displacement of the spindle. As shown, two springs 21 are detachably anchored to pillars 23, 24 carried by the end-plate 2 and V-shaped portions v<2> of the springs engage around the intermediate gear spindle 17. A single plate spring may replace the two wire springs. The gearing may be toothed or friction or the meshing surfaces may be roughened by a knurling-mill to give the equivalent of fine teeth. During coarse adjustment, slip occurs between the gear wheel 19 and clutch spring 20. The gearing may be carried in the operating-knob.
