270,351. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. May 3, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Azo dyes giving intense dyeings on cellulose esters and ethers are made by coupling a diazo compound of the benzene or naphthalene series, or a homologue or substitution product thereof free from sulpho, carboxyl, or hydroxyl groups, with a p-substituted phenol free from sulpho and carboxyl groups, or with a homologue thereof capable of being coupled in the o-position. In examples, (1) diazotized p-aminoacetanilide is coupled with p-cresol; the product is a yellow powder, (2) diazotized p-nitraniline is coupled with p-acetaminophenol; the product is a brown powder, (3) diazotized m-chloraniline is coupled with m-amino-p-cresol; the product is an orange powder. Other components may be used, pnitrophenol, p-ehlorphenol, and xylenols being specified.
