Abstract
270,234. Colbert, G. F., and Colbert, W. H. Sept. 20, 1926. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 1, 1927.] Silvering and platinizing; ornamenting. - A mirror of moderate reflecting power, substantially free from " glare," is constituted by a sheet of clear glass having deposited on its rear face a reflective layer of lead sulphide which is deposited by the action of thiourea from solutions in which the weight of thiourea present is not less than the weight of the lead. The preferred solutions comprise :-(1) Lead acetate 1 oz., water 24 oz.; (2) sodium hydroxide 2 oz., water 32 oz.; (3) thiourea 1 oz., water 48 oz., four parts of (3) being mixed with one part of (1), and one part of (2) then added. Other alkalies may be substituted ior sodium hydroxide. Specifications 1112/80 and 4420/01, [Class 56, Glass], are referred to. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of silver, or of lead, copper, nickel, cobalt, or platinum, alone or combined with silver, for a reflecting layer. For silver the mixture (3 )is replaced by one of Rochelle salt, grape sugar, cane sugar, and nitric acid; or alternatively of Rochelle salt and sodium hydroxide. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
