Machinery, utilizing inertia to obtain movements in. - Vibration is eliminated in a group of two or more crushers or similar machines each of which is operated by means of an unbalanced revolving weight, by causing the actuating weights of the crushers always equal and opposed to a force tending to vibrate one crusher is always equal and opposed o a force tending to vibrate another crusher of the group. With gyratory crushers. the movable crusher-heads are caused to gyrate in predetermined phase relation to each other. The gyratory crusher shown in Fig. 1 comprises a stationary concave 15 mounted directly upon a supporting plate 31 and a gyratory head 16 carried by an upright hollow shaft 18 supported by a universal bearing 20 associated with a spider 19 mounted on the concave 15. The actuating shaft 22 is secured at its upper end by a universal joint 26 to the shaft 24 of a motor 25, and carries at its lower end the actuator 21 which is supported against lateral movement within the head 16 by means of ball bearings 29 and has one or more unbalanced weights 23 secured thereto eccentrically of the shaft 22. Figs. 2, and 3 show a group of four gyratory crushes 3 - - 6 carried by a base 31 and driven simultaneously by a motor 2 supported centrally upon a gear casing 30 carried by the spiders 19. A pinion 7 on the shaft of the motor meshes with oppositely-disposed wheels 8 which mesh with pinions 10 associated with the actuator shafts of the diagonallyopposed crushers 4, 5. Pinions 11 associated with the actuator shafts of the other set of diagonally-opposed crushers 3, 5 gear with idler wheels 9 which mesh with the wheels 8. The eccentric weights 12, 13 of the opposed sets of crushers 4, 6 and 3, 5 respectively are so positioned that the resultant centrifugal forces acting thereon will always be equal and opposed, so that the unbalanced forces tending to vibrate one machine will be equal and opposed to unbalanced forces tending to vibrate another machine. Instead of a. single motor 2 and transmission gearing, an independent motor may be provided for each machine.
