Abstract

269,840. Vanderbilt Co., Inc., R. T., (Assignees of Somerville, A. A.). April 20, 1926, [Convention date]. Mineral oil compositions; lubricants for machinery.-Petroleum oils, with or without added animal or vegetable oils, and used for lubrication at high temperatures as in internal combustion engines or under air pressure as in air compressors, or for electric transformers, switches, and cable impregnation have mixed therewith a small amount of a condensation product of an aldehyde or substituted aldehyde with a nitrogenous base to minimize deterioration. Condensation products specified are those of aniline, a or # naphthylamine, o or p toluidine, or ammonia, with acetaldehyde, aldol, formaldehyde, benzaldehyde, or furfuraldehyde. In an example 0.5-1.0 per cent of aniline-acetaldehyde is dissolved in benzol, mixed with a motor lubricating oil, a transformer oil, or an oil for impregnating cables, and heated to remove the benzol. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 262,107.
