Abstract

269,037. Hick, G. M., and Hick, N. G. Aug. 12, 1926. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Moulding resins; dental flasks.-Phenol aldehyde condensation products are hardened by enclosing the material within a pressure tight container with a volatile liquid and immersing the container in a boiling liquid. As shown in Fig. 1, a vulcanite denture 2 faced with phenol aldehyde product is supported in plaster 3 in a flask 1 adapted to receive a small quantity of alcohol 4 and to be sealed by a cover 5 clamped on to a rubber joint 7 by wing nuts 6. After charging and sealing the flask it is immersed in boiling liquid 8. In a modification the flask is furnished with covers at each end. Fig. 3 shows a flask for moulding a complete denture of phenol aldehyde product, the flask 1 being furnished with ridges 9 to align the mould parts 3<a>, 3<b> and also provided with notches to receive a bar 10 fitted with a clamping screw 11 adapted to bear against a plate 12. In a further modification, a spring is employed in place of the screw. Gas under pressure may be employed in place of the volatile liquid. The boiling liquid may comprise a saturated solution of common salt. The temperature may be varied during hardening, e.g. by concentrating or by diluting a solution. Specification 249,223 is referred to.
