Abstract

295,768. Perks, E. May 25, 1927. Teeth, artificial. - In the manufacture of dentures the impressions of the upper and lower jaws are taken by means of trays adapted to be rigidly but detachably connected together and are transferred to an articulator adapted to hold the connected trays so that models cast from the impressions, whilst in the articulator, will be in correct occlusal position. The upper tray c, Figs. 2 and 3, is formed with a handle d having recessed edges d<1> to engage flanges b<1> on the handle b of a distance piece a faced with rubber a<1>. The distance piece is attached to the tray c so as to determine the position of the occlusal plane whilst the upper impression is being taken, but is replaced by a lower tray which is similarly formed with a flanged handle so as to be definitely located with respect to the upper tray c whilst the lower impression is being taken. The distance piece may, however, be dispensed with. The interlocked trays carrying the impressions are slid into position between the grooved edges h<3> of a central plate h, Figs. 5 and 6, detachably secured by a screw to an articulator, plaster is applied to the impressions and the articulator arms i, i<1>, carrying detachable recessed holders r, are swung into position and pressed into the plaster. The trays and impressions are then removed, the plate h replaced by a flat or curved plate forming an occlusal plane guide or mounting platform, and the wax plates and teeth built up in the usual way. The articulator comprises a bracket k adjustably held by a ball joint o, p on a support l and provided with adjustable slides m to which the arms i. i<1> are pivoted. The position of the arms i, i<1> when closed together is determined by adjustable stops n carried by lugs i<3> on: the arms and bearing against the faces of the slides m.
