Stays for retaining doors in an adjusted open position of the kind with engaging members controlled by movement of the door handle, comprise an eye-piece with a projection adapted to engage with a series of notches in a slotted member threaded through the eye-piece. The rod 8 is adapted to slide in an eye-piece 13 rotatably mounted on a bracket 15 attached to the doorpost 17, the inner end of the rod having a universal joint connection 6, 10 that connects it with a member 1 rotatably mounted on a baseplate 3 secured to the door 16. A set-screw 14 on the eye-piece projects into a slot 11 of the rod, and is adapted to engage with one of a series of notches 12. By movement of the door handle 22 to unlatch the door, the disc 1 is rotated through the cable 20, 19 against the action of a spring 23. The rod is thus partially rotated so that the projection 14 of the eye-piece engages the plain side of the notch 11 of the bar as the door is moved into the open position. When the door handle is released, the spring moves the rod about its axis to cause the notched side of the slot 11 to engage with the projection 14, and the door is secured in an adjusted position. The spring 23 may be dispensed with, the spiral form of the slot 11 causing the bent end of the rod to rise during opening of the door, so that the parts engage by gravity when the door handle is released. A stop 4 limits the rotational movement of the member 1.
