Abstract

268,788. Wittemann, C. R. April 2, 1926, [Convention date]. Aeroplanes; planes, arrangement of.- In an aeroplane comprising a plurality of aerofoils arranged in staggered relationship with the uppermost one forward, adjacent aerofoils are so arranged that the portion of the downwash currents from the forward aerofoil having a downwardly directed decreasing velocity gradient meets the portion of the forward pressure currents due to the rearward aerofoil having an upwardly directed decreasing velocity gradient, the lift being thereby increased and the drag reduced. In the machine shown, groups of plans 1 - - 3 4 - - 6 are arranged as shown. The vertical and horizontal distances between the planes in terms of their chord length are given in the Specification. The angles of incidence of the planes 1 - - 6 are respectively 0, 1, 2, 1, 2 4, degrees. Specification 16894/15 is referred to.
