Sheet-registering devices; feed-tables; sheet carriers.-In a sheet-feeding device for printing or like machines of the kind in which the sheets are fed by tapes and then pass under the influence of a speed-reducing device before reaching the front registering stops, improved registration of the sheets is obtained by relieving the sheets of the action of the forwarding tapes 5 before the front stops 1 are raised. Also a sheet-holding device is lowered to prevent movement of the sheet in the brief interval between the raising of the front stops 1 and closing of the gripper 3 of the impression cylinder. The tapes 5 preferably pass over pulleys 9 carried by oscillating arms 11 operated by a cam 13, and the pulleys are depressed to lower the tapes out of contact with the sheets at the desired time. The sheets then engage fixed strips 20 forming part of a feedtable comprising also a front part 23 fitted with lateral sheet-registering devices. The tapes pass over a fixed pulley 8 which limits the length of tape lowered, and prevents oscillation of the whole length of tape when the pulleys 9 are lowered. The strips 20 can be adjusted by eccentrics 22 to co-operate with tapes of different thickness, and as an alternative to lowering the strips 20 can be raised to lift the sheets out of the action of the tapes. The holding-device comprises a pair of spring-pressed plungers 37, Fig. 5, fitted with spring-pressed balls 32 which project through flanges 31 in the bottom of the plungers and are acted on by other balls 32<a> controlled by springs 32b adjustable by screws. The plungers 37 are depressed by the action of oscillating bell-crank levers 29 operated from a lever arm on a sleeve 34 which is oscillated by cam-and-lever mechanism shown diagrammatically at D, E, F, G, Fig. 2.
