Cut-out arrangements; automatic circuitbreakers. - Direct-current circuit-controlling de. vices, such as may be used to control a protective relay, a circuit-breaker or an indicating device are arranged to operate at different values of current, pressure or other characteristic in accordance both with the rate of charge and with the initial value of that characteristic. Thus the rapid-action circuit-breakers described in Specifications 125,279 and 187,993 may be arranged to permit a higher rate of increase of a relatively low current than of a heavy current, by connecting an automatically variable reactor 26 in shunt with the coil or bar 24 which diverts the flux of the holding-on coil 21 and releases the armature 15 on the switch arm 14. For this purpose the armature 28 pivoted to the core 27 of the coil 26 is controlled by an adjustable tension spring 29, adjustable stops 30, 34 and an adjustable compression spring 32; the action may be retarded by an adjustable dashpot 35.
