Abstract
256,117. Igranic Electric Co., Ltd., (Cutler-Hammer Manufacturing Co.). Dec. 22, 1925. Cut-out arrangements.-In an automaticallyreclosing circuit-breaker system, when the main circuit-breaker 2 opens on overload due to the opening of its holding coil 3 by the action of the overload relay 5 carrying a series coil 6, the relay is held open by a holding-out coil 7 and back contacts 9 on the circuit-breaker connect a low resistance R<2> in parallel with the load. The coil 7 is in shunt with the circuit-breaker and when the circuit-breaker is open is in series with the load. A relatively-high resistance R<1> is connected in series jointly with the coil 7 and the resistance R<2>. When, after the circuit-breaker has been released to assume the open position, the resistance of the load increases sufficiently in relation to the parallel resistance R<2> the current in the coil 7 in series with the load decreases to the point at which it is inadequate to hold out the overload relay 5 which closes and completes the closing circuit of the main circuit-breaker. The coil 7 instead of being arranged on the overload relay may be the operating coil of a separate holding-out relay with its contacts in the lead 10.
