Overhead sewing-machines.-The looper carrier 37 is pivotally supported at its forward and rear ends by upstanding and depending links 46. 38. respectively, and the link 46 is provided with an adjustable bracket support 47 so that the looper 28 may be raised or lowered to bring it into proper co-operation with the reciprocating needle 19. The bracket 47 is adjustably secured by screws 48 in slots in the main casing 1 of the machine. The carrier 37 has a depending arm 43 which is connected to an eccentric 51 mounted on the main shaft 10 and by which the carrier is reciprocated to move the looper across the work, and a branch 44 of this arm 43 is connected to the forward supporting link 46. The looper 28 is oscillated about its longitudinal axis in the carrier by a projecting arm 52, Fig. 4, which is clamped to the looper 30 in the carrier and carries at its outer end a ball head 53 adapted to move back and forth in a slotted arm 54 of a rock lever 55 pivoted on a stub axle projecting from the casing 1. The lever 55 is connected to a depending link 59 in pivotal connection with a lever 65 which is oscillated bv an eccentric 70 on the main shaft 10 to carry the pivotal connection of the link and lever from one side of a dead centre to the other. This lever 65 which is pivoted on an L-shaped lever 62 pivoted to the frame 1 of the machine is pivotally connected through a link 72 to the strap of the eccentric 70, the mechanism being such as to first move the looper quickly forward into the needle thread loop. then retract it to a position adjacent the needle, next move it forward slightly to clear the needle as it is raised, and finally to complete the retracting movement preparatory to another loop forming sequence of operations. The work is fed between feed discs 4, 11. Fig. 3. of which the former is intermittently rotated to feed the work. while the latter is carried on an arm 12 and is pressed by a spring 13 against the disc 4. The needle 19 is carried in a needle bar 20 having a collar 27 with a driving connection to the eccentric 51.
