Pianofortes, cases, framing, soundboards, and keyboards for.-Relates to upright pianofortes in which the case is separately constructed as a unit which is subsequently detachably attached to the remaining parts, also constructed as a unit and comprising the iron frame, sound board, strings, action and keys. To the endwalls 1 of the case are secured the downwardly extending cheeks 2 and the toes 3, with legs 4 interposed. Rails 5, 6 resting on end posts connect the end walls 1, and receive the bottom door. Under the divided top 9, 11 is a strengthening sub-top 10. Straps 14 position the removable back-hollow 15 with hinged fall 16. The top door butts against the end walls. The metal frame A is of a strength sufficient to withstand the full tension of the strings, thus dispensing with the usual timber back, and has a web B within which the sound. board D provided with an edging E is secured by bolts on a seating C. Or the soundboard may be secured only at the corners to bosses on the frame as described in Specification 267,194. The frame also has feet L for securing to a bottom board M which serves for transporting the unit from shop to shop in a trolley. Arms R on the frame support the key bed Q, the keys and the action. The case is attached after tuning of the playing-unit, by sliding it on as described in Specification 267,193 until the board M sliding under the rear parts of the toes 3, abuts the rail 5, thus forming the bottom of the case; the key bed Q abuts a rail 12; and flanges on the iron frame abut thickenings 18 on the end walls 1. Screw-bolts and angle-brackets connect the units together detachably, the bolts for the upper portion passing through clear-holes U in the thickenings 18 and screwing into metal insets at 20.
