Seats, arrangement and disposition of.-In a railway sleeping-car the seat of a compartment adjacent to a sleeping-berth is adapted to be used as an extension of the berth so that the latter may be used by a tall person. Each sleeping compartment 29 contains a lower berth 31 and an upper berth 35, and is disposed adjacent to a seating compartment 30. Between the compartments 29, 30 at the height of the berth 31 is arranged a foldable door 56, which is opened when the seat 58 is to be used as an extension of the berth 31, or the opening may be closed when desired by a length of detachable netting 56<1>. The cushion 59 of the seat 58 is made detachable and vertically adjustable, while the main portion of the seat may be hinged so as to swing downwards to a vertical position into an opening 57 in line with the door 56. The compartment 30 contains a foldable seat and a toilet 51 having a cushion top 52 usable as a seat.
