Computing-apparatus. - A computing weighing machine having a device for increasing or decreasing the weighing capacity comprises in combination a computing chart adapted to be movea in two directions and tabularly enumerated according to the different unit prices and weighing capacities, means for moving the computing chart in one direction to change the numerals for a change in unit price and means for mechanically moving the chart in the other direction to change the numerals when the capacity is changed, whereby the computed values at any capacity and at any selected unit price are, directly indicated. The machine may embody any convenient capacitychanging mechanism (not shown) such as that described in Specification 251,947 wherein two loose weights may be added to or removed from the weigh beam individually, in succession, and then collectively or vice versa, by rotating a knob 1, Fig. 1. On the spindle of the knob is a cam arranged to actuate a fork 12 so as to slide a cylindrical computing chart 18 in an axial direction by an amount depending upon the setting of the knob. The computing chart is splined upon a spindle 9 and may be rotated by a knob 20 so as to display the unit price through a rectangular opening 23. The values corresponding to the unit price and to the capacity setting are displayed through openings 24 and the particular value corresponding to the weight of the commodity is indicated by the usual weight-indicating pointer 14. In a modification, Fig. 5, instead of a cylindrical chart a flat chart 25 is used, and the chart is mounted so that it is moved horizontally by a lever 26 and rod 28 when the capacity-changing knob is rotated and may be moved vertically by depressing any one of a series of unit price keys 29. In this manner the requisite value figures are displayed through apertures 24 according to the unit price and the capacity setting, the particular value corresponding to the goods being indicated by the weight-indicating pointer. Instead of automatically changing the computing chart with change of capacity, the chart may be changed independently.
