Abstract
266,826. Scholl Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Temy, E. Dec. 5, 1925. Foot-arch supports.-The cover or insole of a foot-arch support consists of a single integral layer of material so fashioned by cutting as to constitute a complete or partial upper covering for the metal plate and also a partial under covering therefor. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the leather insole 3 is incised in the manner shown so as to form a pocket for the forward end of the metal support 4. In modifications a metal support comprising two superposed plates may be used, or the insole may be cut so as to form also a pocket for the heel of the plate, or so as to overlap the whole of the edges of the plate. In another form, Fig. 8, the insole is split at the front to form two layers, the lower of which is cut transversely so that the end of the metal plate may pass into the space beween the two layers. The inner surfaces of the two layers may receive a coating of protective material such as plastic celluloid and may be marginally united by a similar material or other adhesive. In any of the modifications the forward end of the metal plate may be covered with a plastic protective medium or inserted in an auxiliary pocket of metal, leather, canvas, or other material, or the pocket formed in the insole may have an auxiliary lining of such materials. Fig. 11 shows a further modification in which the metal support 4b passes through a slit in the insole 3 so that its end bears on the upper surface of the insole, which is skived at 8 to form a smooth foot-engaging surface.
