Abstract
307,165. Pochin, H. S. Jan. 25, 1928, Foot-arch supports. - A foot-arch support is moulded to the shape of the last during the lasting operation and is then secured to the edges of the upper and insole, preferably by sewing. The arch support preferably comprises a base of fabric material impregnated with a stiffening compound. As shown in Fig. 1, it may comprise a number of layers 6, 7, 8 of serim or other material of open weave impregnated with celluloid or other medium and arranged with a common sewing edge 11 and all gradually diminishing in size at the other edges. A backing of duck or other closely-woven material is stuck to the outside of the layer 8 and a layer 9 of croydon is stuck on the layer 6 of serim. The impregnated projecting edges of the layers 6, 7, 8 of material adhere to the upper to retain the support in position during the lasting operation, after which the support is sewn at the edge 11 between the upper 15 and lining 17, Fig. 3. The last may be cut away to allow for the several thicknesses of the arch support.
