266,600. Hoffmann Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Smith, C. H. July 21, 1926. Removing wheels and other articles from shafts.-The axle-box or bearing housing D of tramcar and like vehicle wheel axles and the antifriction bearings contained therein is removable as a unit from the hornplate-box H by a screw or screws threaded into a part of the removable member and abutted against a fixed part, such as the hornplate-box or axle, or conversely. The axle sleeve B, Fig. 1, has a screw thread B<1> which is engaged by a hollow bolt G, Fig. 2, which also bears on the axle eni when it is desired to remove the axle-box. In a modification the flange D<2> of the axle-box has tapped holes to accommodate screwed bolts which bear on the hornplate box H. Alternatively the withdrawing bolts may screw into lugs on the hornplate-box and bear on the axle-box. Specification 176,697. [Class 12 (i), Bearings &c.], is referred to.
