Abstract

266,025. Norman, J. E. Oct. 31, 1925. Stencils and stencilling-apparatus; inking- apparatus. - Stencil duplicators of the flat, rotary, or rocking type, wherein the stencil lies on an absorbent sheet supported by a perforated metal plate resting on an ink-pad, are, adapted for printing in two or more colours by dividing the absorbent sheet into two or more sections each supplied by a separate ink-pad underneath. Preferably also the perforated metal plate is divided into corresponding sections. As shown applied to a duplicator of the flat type in which the parts are arranged in a tray 5 and are clamped together by means of an eccentric roller 12, the duplicator comprises three, ink-pads 4, 4<a>, 4<b> arranged in independent trays 6, 6<a>, 6<b>. laid in the main tray 5, a perforated plate 2 preferably left whole and formed into sections by providing slots therein, and an absorbent sheet made in separate sections 1, 1<a>, 1<b>, the ends 1<c> of which are turned over the edges of the plate 2 and are fixed to the backs by an adhesive. The trays 6 - - 6b may carry distance pieces 8, and the absorbent sheet mav be divided into sections by attaching wax or celluloid strips to its upper surface, or, alternatively, the strips may be attached to the perforated plate. The parts may be formed as units, each comprising a perforated plate, an absorbent sheet, and an ink-pad. A combination stencil sheet for use with this apparatus may have sections of different character formed by treating parts of the same sheet in different ways or by joining together sections of different material.
